What is Future Makers: 20 Under 20?

The Future Makers: 20 Under 20 list recognises the most inspiring young people across the UK who are already reshaping the world of work, aged between 16 and 20.

It shines a spotlight on those shaping their own future and opening doors for others, whether through:

  • Driving innovation in their school, community, or industry

  • Making an impact through Virtual Work Experience (VWEX), work placements, ambassador schemes, or similar opportunities

  • Inspiring peers with leadership, resilience, or fresh ideas

What’s in it for those selected?

Being recognised as one of the UK’s Future Makers: 20 Under 20 comes with unique opportunities to showcase your impact and shape the future of work:

Official recognition: Your story will be shared across Springpod’s platform and our network of 100+ leading employers and universities — spotlighting you as one of the UK’s most inspiring young changemakers.

A seat at the table: Play a key role in hosting and judging the Springpod Awards. You’ll have the chance to shape who gets recognised next, while connecting with employers and universities making a real difference for young people. (All travel and accommodation costs to London are covered.)

Boost your future: From CVs to UCAS applications, this recognition demonstrates leadership, influence, and real-world impact — helping you stand out from your peers and celebrate your achievements.

Who can nominate?

Future Makers: 20 Under 20 is open to nominations from:

  • Young people under 20 who want to share their journey and impact. You must be over 16 to qualify.

  • Parents, carers, teachers, mentors, or peers who want to put forward an inspiring young person they know

  • Employers and early careers teams who want to spotlight a young person they’ve worked with

  • Universities and outreach teams who want to recognise students making a difference on campus or in their communities

If you’re driving change, or you know someone who is, we want to hear about it.

Why the 20 under 20 matters?

Opportunities and recognition can shape futures, not just for those selected, but for everyone they inspire. By celebrating young leaders, innovators, and change-drivers, the list aims to:

  • Inspire action: Show other young people that they can make a difference now, not just in the future

  • Elevate youth voice: Demonstrate to employers and educators the power of young people in shaping how work, careers, and opportunities evolve

  • Create role models: Highlight changemakers who prove that age is no barrier to impact and who are opening doors for others along the way

This is a national spotlight on the students, side-hustlers, mentors, volunteers, creators, and campaigners who are already making work and opportunity better for young people, before they’ve even turned 20.
